Meet the New Guardians of Justice

Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh
Originally from Manipur, Justice N. Kotiswar Singh has a distinguished career. As the 36th Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, he previously served as a judge at the Gauhati High Court and later transferred to the High Court of Manipur. His appointment marks the first time a judge from Manipur has ascended to the Supreme Court, highlighting the North-East’s representation in the nation’s highest judiciary.

Justice R. Mahadevan
Justice R. Mahadevan, who has been serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, brings a wealth of experience to the Supreme Court. Recognized for his judicial acumen, his appointment also underscores the importance of diversity, as he hails from a backward community in Tamil Nadu. His selection aligns with the Collegium’s commitment to inclusive representation.

These appointments not only restore the Supreme Court to its full judicial capacity but also reflect a broader vision of diversity and regional representation within the highest echelons of India’s judiciary.
