Supreme Court Pushes Decision on Kejriwal’s Bail Plea to June 26

In a heated courtroom drama, the Supreme Court has deferred the hearing of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s petition challenging the High Court’s stay on his bail in the Delhi Excise Liquor Policy case to June 26. The adjournment came after the Additional Solicitor General requested more time, stating that an order on the stay application would be issued shortly.

The Division Bench, consisting of Justices Manoj Misra and SVN Bhatti, agreed to the postponement, highlighting the unusual nature of the case. Senior Advocate Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, argued that if the High Court could issue a stay order without complete documentation, the Supreme Court should have the authority to do the same.

The controversy began on June 20, 2024, when the Delhi Court granted bail to Kejriwal in a money laundering case. The following day, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) opposed the bail, citing procedural issues and lack of opportunity to challenge the decision.

Kejriwal’s legal troubles started on March 21, 2024, when he was arrested by the ED in connection with alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy. The ED’s investigation implicated several high-profile individuals, including members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and other political figures, in a conspiracy involving significant financial transactions.

As the case unfolds, all eyes are on the upcoming hearing, which promises to be a critical moment in this high-stakes legal battle.
