Suspicious Hospital Parole Scheme Sparks High Court Inquiry

A significant surge in parole applications backed by medical certificates from a single hospital has raised red flags, prompting the Bombay High Court’s Aurangabad Bench to call for an investigation. Noting the curious frequency of certificates issued by Eagle Multispeciality Hospital in Ranjangaon, the Court has instructed the District Superintendent of Police in Aurangabad to delve into the matter, with the inquiry to be completed within 15 days.

The case in question revolves around Kundan Suresh Pardeshi, a convicted murderer who was granted parole for his wedding in July. Pardeshi later sought an extension of his parole, citing his wife’s critical pregnancy-related health concerns. To support his plea, he submitted medical records from Eagle Multispeciality Hospital, which suggested urgent surgical intervention.

However, authorities rejected Pardeshi’s extension request, doubting the clarity of the medical documentation. The Court also questioned the authenticity of the records, expressing skepticism about the legitimacy of a Nashik resident seeking treatment from a distant hospital in Ranjangaon. Additionally, it was revealed that the hospital’s doctor, Dr. Suraj S. Rana, has been implicated in a criminal case, further clouding the legitimacy of the certificates.

The High Court, unconvinced by the evidence, dismissed Pardeshi’s request for parole extension and ordered an immediate probe into whether this hospital has been playing a questionable role in facilitating prisoners’ parole requests.

The inquiry report is expected soon, with the Court slated to hear further arguments later this month.
