In a move toward sustainable aviation infrastructure, Yamuna International Airport Limited (YIAPL) has selected Tata Power Company Limited through a competitive bidding process to supply 23.8 MW of renewable energy to Noida International Airport (NIA). This bold initiative is expected to meet a substantial portion of the airport’s energy needs, positioning it as one of India’s greenest airports.
The renewable energy solution features an innovative mix: a 13 MW solar power plant located directly at the airport site and an offsite 10.8 MW wind power source. Tata Power will handle the development, operation, and maintenance of both energy facilities for a 25-year term, backed by two distinct power purchase agreements (PPAs) crafted to support YIAPL’s long-term green vision for NIA.
Set to be built on-site, the solar plant will serve as a prominent sustainability feature of NIA, while the wind energy component will be delivered via the interstate transmission system, allowing Tata Power to draw from wind farms anywhere in India. This dual-source setup underscores NIA’s commitment to energy independence and environmental responsibility.
With the signing of these agreements on November 7, 2024, YIAPL and Tata Power are moving forward in a strategic partnership that exemplifies the future of green airports in India. This alliance is part of NIA’s broader plan to achieve significant sustainability milestones, aligning with India’s environmental goals and setting a standard for renewable integration in the aviation sector.
