Two New Voices Join the Corporate Tribunal Chorus as NCLAT Hits Full Strength

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) now hums at full capacity, with two seasoned jurists—Justices N Seshasayee and Mohammad Faiz Alam Khan—stepping in as Judicial Members. Their appointments, made official by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs on May 14, mark the final pieces in a 12-member puzzle that includes the Chairperson, Judicial Members, and Technical Members.

Justice (retd) Ashok Bhushan continues to helm the tribunal, which operates primarily out of New Delhi, with a regional bench in Chennai catering to southern litigants. With this new duo on board, the tribunal stands fully staffed and ready to tackle its docket of complex corporate disputes.

Justice Seshasayee, a Kerala native, began his legal journey after earning his law degree from Madras Law College in 1986. A direct entry district judge from 2004, he rose to the Madras High Court bench in 2016 and served there until his retirement in early 2025. Known for his sharp mind and calm demeanor, he brings over two decades of judicial wisdom to the appellate table.

Justice Khan, born the same year as his colleague in 1963, followed a parallel trajectory. After entering the Higher Judicial Service in 2005, he moved up to become District & Sessions Judge by 2016. His tenure at the Allahabad High Court began in 2018 and concluded with his retirement earlier this year.

Their new roles will last up to four years—or until they reach the age ceiling of 67, whichever arrives first.

For those unfamiliar, the NCLAT isn’t just any tribunal. Created under the Companies Act of 2013, it’s the apex appellate body overseeing decisions from the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI), and the Competition Commission of India (CCI). In the complex world of corporate justice, it’s where the final word often lands.

Now, with the roster complete, the NCLAT is poised to deliver that word with even more authority.
