The Delhi High Court has stepped in to halt the spread of fake, obscene material targeting members of the popular YouTube channel Slayy Point, directing major digital platforms to remove the content without delay.
After examining objectionable material presented to the Court, Justice Vikas Mahajan observed that the images were not only obscene but also plainly defamatory, striking at the heart of the creators’ right to privacy. The Court barred websites and platforms from hosting, circulating, or amplifying any further explicit material linked to the channel’s members, particularly content fabricated using artificial intelligence.
Social media intermediaries, including Meta, X, Google and Reddit, were instructed to take down the offending posts and provide basic subscriber information connected to the accounts responsible. Google was further told to remove related links from its search results, while the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology was asked to block the offending websites altogether.
Slayy Point, a digital brand followed by more than ten million users across platforms, approached the Court after discovering that searches involving a member’s name were yielding obscene, fabricated images. The creators argued that despite prior complaints, some platforms had failed to act promptly, allowing the content to linger online.
Acknowledging the sensitive nature of the case, the Court permitted the masking of the creators’ identities in its order. Notices have been issued to the concerned parties, and the matter is scheduled to be taken up again on January 30.
The ruling underscores the Court’s firm stance against the misuse of AI tools to manufacture and spread explicit content, and reinforces the obligation of online platforms to act swiftly when such abuse is reported.
