The Delhi High Court has granted interim protection to the personality rights of actor-politician Ravi Kishan, directing the removal of unauthorised and objectionable online content that uses his identity without consent.
In an interim order, Justice Jyoti Singh restrained the publication or circulation of any vulgar, defamatory or derogatory material that exploits Kishan’s name, image, likeness or identifiable personality traits.
The Court also instructed major social media intermediaries, including Google, Meta and X Corp, to ensure that links to the disputed content are taken down within 72 hours if the original uploaders or the concerned domain name registrars fail to remove the material within three days of receiving the Court’s July 2 order.
The directions came in response to a civil suit filed by Kishan seeking protection of his personality rights against the alleged misuse of his identity through AI-generated content and other material circulating across websites and social media platforms.
Among the instances highlighted before the Court was a radio programme titled “What is Love with Kavi Kishan” aired on Ishq 104.8 FM. Kishan argued that the programme commercially exploited his name, image and likeness without his approval. He also pointed to an AI-generated video featuring a mock imitation of him that was allegedly shared on Ishq FM’s official Instagram account.
Taking note of these allegations, the Court issued an injunction against Creative Channel Advertising and Marketing Private Limited, also known as Manoranjan TV Network, which owns Ishq 104.8 FM.
The interim relief extends beyond the named defendants and also applies to unidentified individuals, commonly referred to as John Does, who are found to have uploaded or circulated content infringing Kishan’s personality rights.
The case is scheduled to be heard next on October 15.
