The Karnataka High Court has constituted a Special Investigation Team to conduct a fresh investigation into alleged corruption in the recruitment of 400 veterinary officers.
Petitioners alleged manipulation of the selection process, advance access to question papers and demands of up to ₹80 lakh for individual posts. The Court concluded that the existing investigation should not remain with the jurisdictional police or CID, but declined to transfer the case to the CBI.
The newly formed team must comprise senior, experienced officers and undertake the investigation afresh. It must also cooperate with the Enforcement Directorate, which is examining related money-laundering allegations. The order attempts to preserve investigative independence while keeping the inquiry within the state framework.
