Misbehaving With State Counsel May Amount to Contempt

The Allahabad High Court has warned that official misconduct toward government counsel may interfere with the administration of justice and invite contempt action.

In its 12 October 2026 order, the court recorded allegations that a police public-relations officer misbehaved with an additional government advocate. It directed that the officer remain in custody until 5 p.m. and asked the Director General of Police to issue instructions aimed at preventing similar conduct.

The court separately rejected Sachin Yadav’s bail application after considering cyber evidence linking him to a fake Facebook account. The order emphasised both institutional respect for court officers and the need to assess electronic material when deciding bail.
