Supreme Court Rejects Possession Suit Over Unregistered Property Agreement

The Supreme Court on 16 October dismissed a decades-old suit concerning a Friends Colony plot in Delhi. It held that a suit for possession alone was time-barred and untenable where a serious dispute clouded title. An agreement to sell conveys no ownership without a registered sale deed, and the claimants neither sought cancellation or specific performance nor satisfied the requirements for protection through part performance.

Judge / Bench — Justice Aravind Kumar and Justice Vipul M. Pancholi. Judgment authored by Justice Aravind Kumar.
