Orissa High Court Extends Retirement Allowances To Former Transferred Judge

The Orissa High Court on 2 November 2026 directed extension of admissible non-medical retirement allowances for former judge Chitta Ranjan Dash under Odisha’s scheme.

Judge / Bench — Dr. Sanjeeb K Panigrahi and Murahari Sri Raman, JJ.; judgment by Dr. Sanjeeb K Panigrahi, J.

In W.P.(C) 23072/2025 (2026:OHC:262-DB), the Court held that retirement from another High Court did not automatically defeat eligibility under the parent court’s scheme. It set aside the 31 July 2025 decision insofar as it omitted those allowances. Benefits remain subject to scheme conditions and no duplication; admissible arrears must be paid within eight weeks of receipt.

Advocates appearing — Petitioner: Prafulla Kumar Rath, Senior Advocate, with unnamed associates; opposite parties: Satyabrata Mohanty, AGA; Manmay Kumar Dash, ASC; Bigyan Kumar Sharma, Senior Advocate, with unnamed associates; Dipti Ranjan Bhokta, Advocate.
