The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended four advocates for appointment as judges of the Orissa High Court, in a move aimed at strengthening a court currently operating with just over half of its sanctioned judicial capacity.
The decision was taken at the Collegium’s meeting on August 18. The advocates recommended for elevation are:
- Sasmita Tripathy
- Aditya Narayan Das
- Rajjeet Roy
- Gautam Misra
The recommendations come at a time when the Orissa High Court is functioning with only 17 sitting judges, against a sanctioned strength of 33.
The vacancy position could become more pressing in the coming months, with two judges, including Chief Justice Harish Tandon, due to retire this year.
If the four recommendations are cleared, they would provide a significant addition to the High Court’s existing judicial strength and help address its longstanding shortfall in judges.
