The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has invalidated the 2024 election of the J&K Olympic Association, finding that the process ignored the National Sports Development Code and lacked basic transparency.
Justice Rahul Bharti held that the association could not rely on an outdated constitution while its parent body had aligned with national governance rules. Sports administration, the judgment indicated, affects public opportunity and cannot be treated merely as a private club’s internal affair.
A committee comprising retired district judges Chain Lal Bavoria and Virender Singh Bhau will take control, revise the association’s constitution and conduct fresh elections. Records must be handed over, affiliated bodies must cooperate, and a report is due by 29 January 2027. The ruling couples institutional reform with a supervised transition instead of ordering another vote under unchanged rules.
