The Supreme Court has launched the recruitment process for nearly 90 law clerks-cum-research associates for the 2026–27 term, offering a monthly remuneration of ₹1 lakh. The engagement will be full-time and contractual, with selected candidates expected to devote themselves exclusively to the role during the tenure.
Those appointed will assist judges with legal research and analytical work and will not be permitted to take up any parallel assignments or courtroom practice while serving in the position.
Who can apply
Applicants must hold a law degree from an institution recognised by the Bar Council of India. Final-year law students are also eligible to apply. Candidates are expected to demonstrate strong research and writing skills, along with familiarity with major legal research platforms such as e-SCR, Manupatra, SCC Online, LexisNexis and Westlaw.
Age eligibility is set between 20 and 32 years as of February 7, 2026.
Selection process
The recruitment will unfold in three stages:

Part I: An objective, multiple-choice examination testing legal understanding and comprehension

Part II: A descriptive written paper focused on analytical ability and written expression

Part III: Personal interview
The first-stage test will be conducted online on March 7, 2026. A model answer key is scheduled to be uploaded the following day and will remain open for review until 11:59 pm on March 9, 2026.
