Kerala Must Prioritise Consumer Commission Staffing and Infrastructure

The Kerala High Court has directed the State to prioritise staffing and infrastructure for consumer commissions, warning that shortages are obstructing adjudication and enforcement of orders.

In an interim order dated 7 October 2026, the Court noted a ₹1 crore modernisation sanction and a proposal to create 229 posts. It required the Finance Department to provide details within three weeks and stressed that timely facilities for adjudicatory bodies remain the State’s responsibility.

The order does not finally decide the proceeding. It keeps the matter under supervision, with the next hearing fixed for 2 December, while seeking concrete progress on vacancies, facilities and execution capacity in the consumer-dispute system.
