The Supreme Court has ordered a Medical Board assessment of a 48-year-old convict reportedly suffering paralysis and serious visual impairment.
The application arose in pending criminal proceedings and relied on deteriorating health as a ground requiring judicial attention. Rather than decide the requested relief on unverified assertions, the Court directed Karnataka authorities to arrange an examination covering both eyesight and general medical condition.
The Board’s report must be placed before the Court ahead of the next hearing on October 30. This will give the judges an independent clinical basis to evaluate what accommodation or further order may be necessary.
The direction reflects a cautious, evidence-based approach to prisoner health claims. It neither accepts nor rejects the claimed disabilities at this stage, but ensures that subsequent judicial decisions rest on a current, multidisciplinary medical assessment.
