The process of strengthening the Karnataka High Court has taken a step forward, with the Supreme Court Collegium clearing the names of three judicial officers for elevation to the Bench. The decision emerged from a meeting held on April 14, where the panel considered proposals to address the court’s existing vacancies.
The officers recommended for appointment are Rajeshwari Narayana Hegde, Kedambadi Ganesh Shanthi, and Mahadevappa Brungesh. Their elevation, once formalised, is expected to add to the court’s adjudicatory capacity.
The Karnataka High Court is currently functioning with 45 judges, well below its sanctioned strength of 62. The shortfall has been a continuing concern, particularly as case pendency grows and judicial workload expands. The Collegium’s latest move is seen as part of ongoing efforts to bridge this gap and reinforce the Bench.
